Aula Simfonia Jakarta Feb 25th concert presents exciting programs:

GUSTAV HOLST - The Planets, Op. 32 (Mars & Jupiter)
Composed from 1914-1916, The Planets is an orchestral suite consisting of seven short tone poems. Premiered in 1920, it was an instant success from the very beginning. Holst took inspiration from astrology and horoscopes rather than astronomy and mythology. Each movement is named after a planet and its corresponding astrological character. The suite is considered his most popular work today. Among the various movements, Mars and Jupiter are the most frequently heard

ANTONIN DVORAK - Slavonic Dances, Op. 46 Nos. 2 & 8
The Slavonic Dances are two sets of piano duets composed in 1878 and 1886. Shortly after its publication, each set was orchestrated by the composer. The Dances was commissioned by German music publisher Fritz Simrock, requesting that the music should reflect the composer's Bohemian homeland. The resulting work led Dvorak to his international breakthrough. The Dances feature a variety of traditional forms, including polkas, kolos, sousedsky, and dumky.

FRANZ LISZT - Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major, S. 125
The concerto took 22 years to complete, perhaps a testament to how famous and thus, busy, the composer was. He started the drafts in 1839, revisited it in 1849 brought it to its provisional completion in 1856, and continued to revise it until 1861. In this concerto, Liszt explores the ideas of joining sections and thematic variation. Although his compositions are known for their virtuosic quality, the Second Concerto steers away from it and focuses instead on the poetry music. Liszt concentrates on the integration between the piano and orchestra, and creating variations that lead the listener through a series of thematic transformations.
